Lugano
While still in the planning phase for this trip, we were very curious about the town of Lugano. In clean and orderly Switzerland, but on the South, therefore warmer, side of the Alps and with an Italian speaking population – could this be the place we might grow old?
Lake Lugano is just beautiful!
Randy is now in his third year of learning Italian; in the upcoming six weeks traveling around Italy we hope he will have mastered conversational Italian - somewhat. So we planned to be in Lugano for a longer period to get to know it and its surroundings better.
To say it right away: we really like it here, especially in the little suburb Castagnola where we stayed. Swiss lifestyle is very nice and easy – yet it is out of our price range in the long run. A few weeks vacation, maybe even months, but not years. So that was good to find out. Check mark.
Although Lugano sees many tourists in summer and winter, it is not quite built up like the other lakes of the Italian South side of the Alps like Garda Lake or Lake Como. The trees often reach to the lake’s shoreline which gives it a very appealing appearance, especially when you see the palm trees at many places.
We made a side trip to Lake Como one evening to meet a friend, which involved a lovely drive along the shore of Lake Lugano and another drive along the shore of Lake Como. So much beauty in so short a space.
